Christening

On February 27, 2014, the chairman of the Synodal Department for Monasteries and Monasticism, the vicar of the Holy Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius, archbishop of Sergiyev Posad performed the rite of consecration the first in Moscow church of Saints Peter and Fevronia of Murom and committed first Divine Liturgy in the Temple.

March 29, 2014, the first Sacrament of Baptism was performed in the reconstituted church of Saints Peter and Fevronia of Murom. This new church is now available for the Sacraments conduction.

It is often, that a desire to christening arises among people who do not duly know the Orthodox teaching, yet recognize the high moral authority of the Orthodox Church and want to join its Holiness and Grace.

Joining the Church, otherwise called Churching, begins with The Sacrament of Holy Baptism, which is the first out of seven Sacraments of the Church. It is also called the second (spiritual) birth.

Christening, a person mysteriously dies to sins and passions (denying to serve them) and resurrects with Christ for a new life that leads to the eternity. All this means that Christening is the event as important as the birth of a person.

Christening, first of all, cleanses a person from all his sins, voluntary and involuntary ones. After the Baptismal font, the soul comes out renewed and epiphanic. It is also important to clean the sin-damaged nature of a newborn child, which he or she, unfortunately, invariably inherits from his or her parents.

The church’s baptistery is also equipped for adults Christening. Many people who first came to Intercession (Pokrovsky) Monastery to St. Matrona of Moscow, subsequently make a decision to be baptized and confess Orthodoxy.

The Sacrament of Baptism is performed throughout the year, therefore, preparing to get baptism, it is first necessary to have a burning desire to follow Christ and live the life of the Church. That is to say, to participate in Church Sacraments, attend a divine service, to pray and to fast.

Usually, it is required to know at least “The Symbol of Faith” and the “Our Father” prayer, by a non-Orthodox to be baptized. “The Symbol of Faith” is a short statement of the truths of Christianity, the commandments of God, which are the basics of the Christian life.

This certainly applies only to adult members of the Church. Children can not yet realize the taken teachings and consciously connect with Christ. Therefore, the godparents are elected, when the Christening children whose parents are believers, intending to educate their children with the Orthodox faith.
