On the 29th of November 2017 the Synod of bishops of Russian Orthodox Church started its work in the Hall of Church cathedrals in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow. The Program of the Synod includes the anniversary celebrations dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the restoration of the Patriarchate and enthronement of Patriarch Tikhon. This event took place on 4th of December 1917, the feast of the presentation in the temple of the blessed virgin Mary in the Dormition Cathedral of the Kremlin.
By the beginning of the Synod the relics of St. Tikhon, Patriarch of Moscow, were brought to the Christ the Savior Cathedral from Donskoy Stavropegial monastery.
The meeting was preceded by the divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, which was served by the sacristan of the Cathedral Archpriest Mikhail Ryazantsev and Moscow clergy. His Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill and bishops who arrived at the Synod were praying at the Liturgy.
After the Liturgy there was a meeting of venerable relics of St. Tikhon, which were brought to the Temple of Christ the Savior from Donskoy monastery.
Patriarch Kirill celebrated a prayer service for the opening of the Synod of bishops standing before the relics of St. Tikhon.
His Holiness Patriarch Kirill prayed asking for God’s blessing upon the future work of the Synod.
347 archpastors of Moscow Patriarchate from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Estonia and other foreign countries with dioceses of the Russian Orthodox Church, took part in the Synod.
That day many bishops visited Pokrovsky convent and venerated to the relics of Holy blessed Matrona of Moscow who revered by believers in different parts of the world.
